THE STITCH AND FIX PROGRAM

Economically Empowering Women, One Stitch at a Time

The Stitch and Fix Program is our transformative initiative dedicated to uplifting women of color from underserved communities in Africa and North America. We aim to create sustainable, income-generating opportunities that empower these women to thrive and reach their full potential. Through this program, we provide aspiring fashion designers with essential resources and tools, including comprehensive sewing courses, access to machinery, hands-on apprenticeships, and valuable networking opportunities to ensure that they launch their careers successfully.

Our goal is to empower these talented women, who often lack the means to invest in their craft, to build fruitful careers in the fashion industry. But Stitch and Fix goes beyond economic empowerment—we are also committed to challenging and redefining the cultural norms that have historically limited women’s potential. By supporting women in both "stitching" their futures and "fixing" outdated perceptions, we are creating a world where they can live their lives to the fullest.

In 2022, the program partnered with a local non-profit organization that serves immigrant women in the Houston area, by providing these women with sewing courses. Through our collaboration with this organization, these 2 talented women received fabrics and sewing tools necessary for their projects from the Stitch and Fix Program, allowing them to create beautiful garments as part of their apprenticeship.

Through this program, the women worked on sewing projects that were returned to our organization upon completion and sold to DMB, a prominent fashion firm. The women received a fair wage for their work, which not only supports their livelihoods but also enhances their skills and experience in the fashion industry. This apprenticeship offered a practical pathway for immigrant women in the Houston area to advance their careers in fashion design, while also contributing to a sustainable and inclusive community.
